Things are alternating fast at the site of Minto Communities GTA is actually new 46-storey condominium tower at Church and Adelaide in In the downtown area Toronto. The project known as The Saint celebrated a ceremonial ground breaking around September, and following the completion of a site backfilling in October together with the commencement of shoring work, the Wallman Architects -designed building continues apace through its early construction stages.

Earlier this month, shoring rigs completed drilling around the perimeter of the site, and excavation has since begun. The first few feet of digging, concentrated at the north end of the site, has revealed a caisson wall shoring system, typically used for sites with a high water table to ensure groundwater stays out. Excavation for The Saint will progress to an impressive six levels below grade, approximately 20 metres down. Despite that depth, the underground parking levels will have space for only 86 vehicles, 79 of them for residents and seven for visitors.

Digging should take several months before bottoming out. Raising a crane, and forming of foundations and underground levels will follow, with the tower to eventually rise to 148.74 metres into the skyline east of the Financial Core. The completed building will bring 419 new condominium units to the area, while introducing new ground-floor retail space that will help to animate this stretch of Church Street with pedestrian life.
